4. HILLSBORO (98-56): picked to finish no better than sixth, Hillsboro surprised the oddsmakers... the Blazers were last in '50 ... great pitching and home-run hitting along with super fielding (.980 FA) were the secrets... they were second in the Tycobbian Union in pitching ERA (3.02) and first in the IPA in homers (217)... top starters were Steve Cooper (21-10/2.44), Jamie Lee Bradley (17-12/2.76), Scott Cole (12-1/2.31/2 saves) and Clay Spencer (19-9/3.65)... heading up the bullpen was Hank Greenbury (15-8/2.09/9 saves)... leading the attack was All-Star 1B Ernie Moxley (.298/58/147/103), who had a terrific year, topping the IPA with 58 homers and 147 RBIs... C Harry McGuire (.286/37/85/88) and LF Jurrien Bellini (.248/34/92/95) also supplied some good power numbers... with the strong starters and good run-scoring ability, the Blazers could capture some postseason attention.
