BRANHAM BLANKS WALESKA 1-0 IN PRO CUP OPENER
Erik Branham is just 23 years old and doing wonders in his first year with the Arlon Champions... Branham has chalked up five wins in the IPA playoffs so far.
In the opening game of the IPA Pro Cup Series at Derby Downs in Arlon, the rookie right-hander blanked Waleska 1-0, stopping them on four hits, while striking out six and walking two batters in a complete game... Branham (5-0/1.51) bested Lou Carlson (3-1/1.89) in a superb pitchers' duel.
Branham (.143) even scored the game's only run in the last of the third inning when he singled and was doubled in by 2B Carlo Campanella (.339)... Carlson was almost Branham's equal... he tossed seven innings, yielding only one run and four hits with 6 Ks and 2 walks... it was Carlson's first loss in the playoffs after three victories.
