It isn't a recent thing but there are some fringe great players that I think belog in that have retired so really cool. No, I actually look at the last time the player played in the league, not their retirement date (mostly as I was testing, I noticed that Pedro Martinez' official retirement date wasn't until a year after he last played in MLB, and according to current HOF criteria, "last played in league" is used, not official retirement date).
You can change the years on ballot to up to 20, so that would give you anyone within the last 25 years would get a shot. And otherwise, we list the HOF criteria for all retired players, so if you can always investigate the criteria for each guy and get a better idea whether you feel they're "deserving" or not, and induct them manually or not.
