That's the one thing with the GM+Manager mode -- you literally are the manager, officially, on the personnel page, and the manager and his new personality are gone. So, if you don't want to actually manage each game at a time it's not really the right setting.
When I'm playing through a season managing each game, I usually won't even bother setting up depth charts deeper than who the starters at each position are because it doesn't really matter if you're setting the lineups all day and making your own decisions during the game. The depth charts just tell the AI managers how to use their players.
That's definitely the weakest part of the game, IMO -- the AI lineups and pitching staffs. Particularly, if there's players with very similar ratings, it won't split their time, it will just give time to one vs. the other. To help combat that, I usually change the AI evaluation to greatly value this year's stats so the ratings more immediately reflect how they're playing.
I'd love to see that get an overhaul in the future. I envision some way to specify a general role for a player on a team, or some approximate goal of PA's at the end of the year, without being as rigid as "Force start".
Oh, and I don't remember seeing that timer on the database page of how long you've played the game... if you spend more than a certain amount of time playing the game, does the game alert your local vulnerable adult social workers to stop by and see if you've gotten up from your computer to take a shower and eat?

I just swapped the existing scouting director with the GM... most of the GM's have way better ratings than the scouting directors!
