Ok I tried the extra layer and it works great though you can not change any parts of the jersey's colour you can add short sleeves, shading, shadows, texture and buttons if the jersey does not have any.
You can use thin pinstripes if the colours do not clash with the tie and suspenders.
You can also use the other items if you like but I prefer a relatively plain 1870's look.
I have made a few variations with paint such as changing tie directions, shapes and sizes, added buckles to suspenders and changed jersery colours to suit my pyrposes and keep them different from one another.
It is very time consuming for me to do this with paint and over the years I had more than couple of dozen but lots them do to fried hard drives. Then I restart and do it all over again. It would be nice to have Jersey Creator do it for me but I will just make do until that day comes.
