I've been having trouble keeping players throughout their entire careers for my teams because they always end up asking for too much money.

In past versions of OOTP, I've been able to at least sign players to long term deals before their arbitration is done (I usually liked to the first year they hit arbitration), giving them 5 or so mil more than they were asking, (i found the magic number around 13.5m/year) and they would sign longer deals sometimes upto 7 years. Now, 90% of guys just want one year deals. One guy wanted 9.5mil from arbitration, and I kept upping the price on a 5 year deal and it went up to 20m/year and he still wouldn't sign it. Then, once he gets to free agency he wants some 9year/270mil contract and if i even go down like 5 mil or so they just refuse to negotiate.

Is there something I'm missing, or is it just a lot harder to keep good players in this version?
