First things first: Look at the free agent pool. 4 players caught my eye, and I made offers to 3. None wanted a major league deal, but I assume they'll all be promoted.
Next, I shopped around Stone. I don't want the 34 y/o in my rotation as I feel he is unreliable. What we got for him surprised me. Ramos (our closer) got himself the #5 spot in the rotation. Stone ended up allowing us to acquire 27 y/o, 3.5 star catcher José Flores. In addition, we got a career minor league pitcher (but you never know with this team) and a potential backup first-baseman.
We opened our season at home against The Bronx Wranglers.
Game 1: Negrón vs. Vera
Vera is a 35 y/o ace. Yep. 35. Negrón started off bad, with a groundout, a walk, a double, an rbi single, and then two more outs. Finally, we bounced back by tying the game up in the bottom of the 2nd. The 5th inning was a disaster. 3 unearned runs came in. By then all hell broke loose. Entering the 9th it was 6-3. Well, I can now say Bass sucks terribly. He gave up 4 in 1.2 innings, Trinidad tried to stop the bleeding with a solo shot in the 9th, but the inevitable came. 9-4 Bronx.
All three free agents signed. Michael Huff became the starting CF. The other two are in the minors.
Game 2: Gonzáles vs. O'Higgins
O'Higgins is a 36 y/o ace. Hmm. A very boring game to say the least. No extra base hits brought in a run (3 doubles combined) and it was a true pitchers duel. Gonzáles went 7.2 and got a no decision, O'Higgins went 7.2 and got a loss. Final score: 2-1 Kansas City
Game (2) 3: Apparently my game broke :/. It says that game 2 was never on schedule yet I still have the win. Whatever. (Season for us will most likely be 163 games)
Sims wins 3-2. Not much else to say because of the bug.
Game 3?: Brown vs. Queixo
A wonderful game with Brown getting the loss due to a bug. Ugh. Bronx takes it 6-5 even though both teams mustered up 3 in the final inning. Man this game has bugs.
Series Fun Fact: Delgado (who was our starting catcher till we traded Stone), struck out in his only pinch hit attempt. What a player!
Other news:
2 week or less injuries for us, Marsh and Bane. Another guy made the news with a one day injury. Well then. Dave Craig of the Celtics goes 5-5 against Milwaukee.
