Yes. I know this is going to sound dangerous, but I shut my damned Windows updates off once I get to a "happy zone" with my laptops (this time, right after upgrading to Windows 8.1). Once everything is working, I don't WANT any updates, FROM ANYBODY. Too many conflicts, too many oopsies, too many arbitrary decisions to add or remove wanted/unwanted features.
How do I survive? Here's how:
- I use a first-class anti-virus program which I meticulously update and apply regularly.
- I don't do dumb things with my spam e-mail and I don't go to dumb places with my browser.
