The next day, with quite a bit less pomp and circumstance, Mississippian Fred Walters arrived to become the Lookouts new manager. Walters, a player-manager in the Southern Association the two previous seasons, had his contract purchased from Louisville. He would manage Chattanooga through the 1950 season, then go on to be an SEC official for 23 years. A former catcher, he obviously brought his mitt along.
