To find a photo of Conley in an Indians uniform, there has to be an opportunity for such a photo to be taken. Gene Conley spent the entire 1964 spring training season with the Boston Red Sox. His last pitching appearance with them was on April 11. The Sporting News of April 25, 1964 reported "Manager Johnny Pesky announced practically on the eve of the season opener that (Jack) Lamabe had replaced Gene Conley in the starting rotation." The Red Sox' first regular season game was on April 16. Conley was released by the Red Sox on April 21. The Indians signed Conley for their Burlington Class A farm club, as reported in The Sporting News of May 9. It was understood that "he would be added to the Indians' pitching staff if he could work himself back into first class condition," according to The Sporting News of June 6. After two appearances with Burlington, he was released by the Indians on May 31.
It's true that 1964 Topps card #571 has a banner on it which reads "Indians," but the accompanying photo of Conley does not show him wearing a Cleveland uniform. I doubt that he ever donned one.
