Jerry Hummitzsch
Jerry Hummitzsch had been a promising young pitcher in the Braves' system when his life ended in a car crash at Age 23. Warren Spahn and Joe Torre were among the pall bearers at his funeral. He had pitched a no-hitter for the Austin Senators in the Texas League in 1963 and was a non-roster invitee with the Braves in their spring instructional camp in 1964. Walt Hrniak had been in the car with him, but obviously survived the accident and went on to enjoy a major league playing and coaching career. Jerry is pictured here in his Austin Senators uniform.
