Regular Season Wrap-up

The United Cup playoffs are set, as the Wellington Athletics and Kingston Pelicans took top spot in their respective leagues, with the Queensland Eagles and Sherburn Tigers each taking the wild card.
Wellington made things far more interesting in the East than needed, as they stumbled in March, going just 11-14 for the month. That allowed Queensland, who went 14-10, and the Downie Chiefs (16-10) to make a push for first place in the final weeks of the season. In the end, Wellington’s lead was just too much to overcome, and they held on to top spot by 1 game over the Eagles. The hottest team in the East in March was actually the Stratford Barons (17-7) who leap frogged Embro in the standings and finished 6 games back of the wild card.
In the West, the Kingston Pelicans provided no drama, as they cruised to first place with a 20-6 record in March, finishing 12 games over the Sherburn Tigers. After a disastrous February (9-14), Sherburn rebounded in March (14-10). In the end, it probably didn’t matter, as the Hespeler Stars (11-15) faltered. Just four games back of Sherburn when the month began; the Stars finished 8 games back.
