At the end of the day, in order for the game to make decisions about lineups, organization, and so on, it has to at least decide on a "primary position" for players, although of course that could change over time.
Really, the game needs to think more holistically in terms of 'infielders and outfielders,' most likely. But even there, you have outfielders who move to infield, and vice-versa.
It's a pretty tricky thing.

Yea the game really does not have a primary position for players let alone a preference.
Currently the player's primary position is the position he's currently starting at but this goes out of the window for backups.
I would like to see the player's fielding ratings more compatible to the player's listed primary position. I sometimes see a case where a player has a primary position at SS but his fielding ratings suggest that he should not be anywhere near that position let alone it being his highest rating which would be low because of his fielding ratings. You would think this type of player would have more experience at a position that takes advantage of his fielding skills. But that is an entire different topic.
