Another thing is how good are these players that are being waived? If they are too good I think that may be a bigger problem.

For example, Dennis Eckersley is on the wire now. He's excellent and cheap. It's early August in my season and there are several contending teams that could badly use him as a starter or reliever. But he'll end up in the minors.
