I used a TI computer in a class in 7th grade and learned a bit there, but I also simply taught myself from the book that came with the computer, since I had one at home too. I wasn't very good at it, though. A friend who now has a PhD in Computer Science had the same computer and was able to do all kinds of things that I could never figure out.

I mastered generating random numbers and IF/THEN statements, though!

I remember the day in the 90s I started with QBASIC. That is as far as I have evolved.
