Old-Timers' Day, Busch Stadium 1970. If you hang in for 45 years after you're attending old-timers' days, you're doing okay.
(Of course, Red Schoendienst is even older and he's still working for the team. Red's so old he batted against a pitcher who was born in the 19th century. Red batted against someone who was teammates with someone who pitched against someone who pitched to Cap Anson. He's only four degrees of separation from the National Association.)
(Answers to the "someones", below.)
As Schoendienst's pitching coach, 1971-1975
(Schoendienst had 6 ABs in 1945 against Hod Lisenbee [b. 1898]. Lisenbee's first year in the majors was when he went 18-9 for the 1927 Senators, which was Walter Johnson's last season. Walter pitched against Cy Young. Young pitched to Anson.)
I just wish I could find a picture of the young Barney, during his first stint with the Cardinals, in 1955.
