In the middle of May the Reds put Tommy Corcoran on the trading block. Not a great defensive shortstop by any stretch of imagination. But at least a shortstop. Not hitting a lick. But Bob McKinney's 1.2 E/G are making me visibly angry.
So I flip Fred Ketcham, an overflow outfielder, the the Reds for Corcoran. Corcoran does a bit better defensively, perhaps making an error every other game. Batting .240, too.
Two weeks later, Corcoran gets hurt on a play. And we're in Detroit, and it seems to take all week for our medicine man and his donkey, with all kinds of pots and flasks clanging on the sides, to arrive from Philadelphia.
Hellllooo, Bob McKinney. The tool makes three errors the next day, somehow running up eight unearned runs on Eddie Plank's ledger.
Wow. When does the era of sure-handed .190, 1 HR, 23 RBI in 550 AB shortstops start?
