It wouldn't be much of a "CEI" if they came back.

There are long term injuries though that can suffer set backs and they can recover from it or retire. (won't be the same player of course)

I had a SP who suffered a torn labrum and missed 2 years before coming back as a Relief quality pitcher.

You can go into the editor and tailor it. I personally remove the instant CEI's in my file.
