No. In earlier versions mid 30's first basemen, still good hitters who had somehow retained vestigial ratings at SS were signed as FA by AI teams and used as starting SS.
It's better now but that issue led to defensive positions, ratings, and player use becoming my pet peeve about the game. I still edit a few players every season usually just to stop them being used over a better player.
