Luis Arroyo - 1955 Rookie All-Star
Luis Arroyo is well-known for his years with the Yankees in the early 1960s. He was a 1961 all-star and that year led the American League in Saves, many of which came in relief of Whitey Ford, who after 10 years in the majors was finally able to have his first 20 win season.
I was surprised to find out that Arroyo had been an all-star once before in his rookie year of 1955 with the St. Louis Cardinals, when he was a starter. Arroyo had an excellent first half going 9-2 through the end of June and 10-3 at the all-star break. He slumped badly in the second half, however, finishing with an 11-8 record.
Does anyone have photos of Arroyo as a Cardinals rookie in 1955?.
