Bob (Bo) Polinsky
Technically doesn't belong in this thread but the story is too good to skip.
When George Steinbrenner demanded the Yankees get a "real shortstop" in 1977, Bill Veeck's people were able to get Oscar Gamble, $200,000, future Cy Young winner LaMarr Hoyt and a "throw-in" from New York for Bucky Dent. The Yankee baseball department was horrified to learn Steinbrenner had tentatively agreed that the throw-in could be some "useless short lefty" named Ron Guidry. They pleaded with him and he went back to the White Sox who wisely realized they had gotten about twice Dent's actual value already - and settled for Bob "Bo" Polinsky instead.
