Under the heading of useless but still proud tidbits of information offered for at least this forum member: Alan apparently was not on ASU's squad that made it to the school's first CWS the previous year in 1964, like then fellow Sun Devil sophomore Sal Bando. That team spawned what ended up being the initial building blocks of quite a dominant program. In ASU's first ever CWS game of '64, they were shut out by a Missouri team that went on the lose in the finals against Minnesota. My dad played on that Mizzou squad and I'm very thankful that I still get to hear him tell some ball stories.....Here's to a great pastime.
