Tom Parsons 1963

His terrifying big league career won-lost record (2-13) shouldn't obscure the fact that Tom Parsons was a top prospect in the Pirates' system. He was in camp with them as early as 1958 (at age 18), and even as he logged most of that W-L with the Mets he had WHIPs of 1.34 and 1.38. Behind the particularly nightmarish 1965 results (1-10) his WAR was only -0.3 and his BABIP was .308, which suggests a lot of bad luck.

More over, even after that desperately long year in the Met rotation, the Astros were willing to surrender Jerry Grote for him straight up. Houston had actually obtained Parsons from Pittsburgh during the 1964 season in some sort of conditional trade with which the Pirates weren't satisfied.

This would be Parsons at the Mets' 1965 training camp.
