To add to my previous post, the game does a decent job replicating these leagues and does have some independent leagues in the MLB Quickstart. In games that I have played, I have seen plenty of guys get purchased from these leagues by the AI and I have also done the same thing, I even had a couple guys become solid contributors and even found a two time all-star.
