A photo taken in spring training of 1942, when the Dodgers were based in Havana, shows manager Leo Durocher getting acquainted with his rookies.
Among the young Dodgers are, front row left to right: Ed Albosta, Bob Chipman, Ciff Dapper, Jack Graham and Ed Head.
Second row, left to right: Chet Kehn, Emil Lochbaum, Tom Tatum, Les Webber and Dixie Howell.
Lochbaum was the only one of the group who never reached the majors. Head was the stadout of the group, winning 10 games in 1942. Walker, who would be traded to Cincinnati, did not suit up for the Dodgers until 1943. Dapper was in a memorable trade for broadcaster Ernie Harwell in 1948. BTW, Dapper passed away only five years ago at the age of 91.
Photo originally taken by Barney Stein for the Sporting News,. Found in a Lexibell folder.
