I'd recommend saving your league, uninstalling again and then simply reinstalling the steam version, without the patch. That should allow you to load your game. The patch will be updated for steam shortly, you'll just have to wait a bit longer.

Not sure what you mean since the patch was pushed out to Steam users. I didn't download it. And in general it is one of the real downsides of Steam that they don't allow opting out of updates.
