Jim Gentile 1957

The great home run hitter of the '60s had what was probably the unique experience of being traded by a team while he was leading the league in homers.

When Gentile was sent by the A's to Houston on June 4, 1965, he had hit 10 blasts in his first 38 games - good for a tie with Rocky Colavito, Tony Conigliaro, Willie Horton, Frank Howard, and Lee Thomas, for first in the American League. As it turned out, at least from Kansas City's viewpoint this might have been the best timed trade in history. Gentile would hit only 17 more Major League homers.
