Seen some things written here about the since-abolished 28-man roster that MLB teams were allowed to use until 1968. One of the more notable big leaguers affected by the rule was Chuck Schilling, Red Sox second baseman for five years.
On April 6th of 1966, an end-of-camp deal saw Schilling and Russ Nixon dealt to the Twins for Dick Stigman and a PTBNL. Nixon stuck with the Twins for two seasons, but Schilling never played an inning for the Twins and retired when the Twins attempted to send him down on May 15 -- the date to cut down rosters from 28.
