UPDATE:
I've now played about 10 games in a row (Historical Exhibition, 3D) without any crashes -- including 6 in a 90-minute span earlier today. I think my computer just had to get used to the 3D or something, cos I almost always played in Broadcast mode before. But this 3D version has totally converted me over. Congrats!
