Chiti would never have appeared in Yankee Stadium in a Yankee uniform, nor in spring training with the Mets (he was obtained from Cleveland and returned in midseason 1962). The photos of Cerv wearing white undersleeves is from his abortive stint with the Mets in Spring Training 1963. Topps in fact shot Chiti at the Polo Grounds, probably in May, 1962.
I appreciate they both have craggy faces but Chiti was well known for his near mono-brow:

Well, what can I say? I didn't think it
was a guess. I fully believed I recognized him. He immediately and convincingly looked like Chiti to me. Between the nose (few noses look like that) and, yes, the eyebrows (which fan out wider towards the center face--and few sets of eyebrows look like that), and the chin, He looked like Chiti. I could think of no other Met who looked anything close to that. I have no recollection of Bob Cerv being a Met (though, checking the
earlier postings of NRI, I see him listed). Since he wasn't a Met, I'd have no clue what Bob Cerv looked like. Seriously. I'm a one team guy and make no secret of that. Whether Chiti's brows appear mono or not largely depends upon the image you're viewing. As for Chiti being in Yankee Stadium, it wouldn't be the first or last time a club brought an extra catcher (not on the active roster) north for the start of the season. Nowadays, of course, they have official "bullpen catchers" included on the coaching staff. That today's Vault releases were of Chaney and Chalk and Christian and Christienson and Chrisley and Chiles, seemed to confirm that it would be a Ch player--which, since I already saw him as Chiti, fit.
Anyway, realizing that I'm clearly the only person to ever mis-identify an image in the recorded history of people identifying images (thank God Topps never did that;
oh wait...), I'll just keep my mouth shut from now on. Apologies for wasting everyone's time.
