Is there a new rule?

I am seeing players who are added to the 40 man roster after the draft lose all of their option years in just under 2 years.

I know there is/was a rule that these type of players get an extra 4th year (assuming they are under 5 years professional) but not lose a year unless changes were made that I am not aware of.
