I don't have OOTP 17--the latest version I have is OOTP 14--but I think there is a way in the "game" dropdown menu--the same one you use to save the game--to select "create quickstart," and have the game itself just create a quickstart file.
I think any interesting league, like yours, would make a good quickstart.
