Bill Wolff 1902
On September 10th, 1902, Bill Wolff made his major league debut as the starting pitcher for the Phillies against the first-place Pirates in Philadelphia. He pitched a complete game, a 5-1 loss in which he allowed eleven hits, walked four, and hit a batter; he was 1-for-3 at the plate. Wolff did not pitch again that season, but he was back with the Phillies in spring training of 1903, when this photo was taken. He pitched in the preseason intercity series against the Athletics, but did not appear in any regular-season games that spring, and after his release in early May he pitched in the minor leagues with Peoria. His major-league career consisted of his one game in 1902. (Baseball-Reference does not indicate which hand he threw with; clearly he was a right-hander.)
