1980 Philadelphia Phillies (#103) 4, 1931 St. Louis Cardinals 2
MVP: Manny Trillo (Phi 1980) .440/.440/.960, 2 HR, 5 RBI
Our first triple-digit-ranked winner, the 1980 Phillies upset the heavily favored 1931 Cardinals behind Manny Trillo, Steve Carlton and Lonnie Smith, among others. St. Louis had a good chance of leading the series 2-1 after Game 3, with a 9th inning comeback that erased a 3-1 deficit and sent the game to extra innings. But Pete Rose hit a walk-off single in the 10th, giving that 2-1 edge to the Phillies. While the Cardinals did win Game 5, the Phillies were never really in trouble after Game 3.
