All-Star Break Recap

Team Notes
-The Athletics have gone 18-18 since the Calendar turned to June. This puts them 4 games out of the AL West lead, behind both the Angels and Mariners and 3.5 games out of the last Wild Card spot.
-SP Sonny Gray is in striking distance of the Pitching Triple Crown, leading the AL in Wins (11) and strikeouts (134). He’s second in ERA with a 2.72, trailing Carlos Carrasco who sports a 2.45 ERA.
-Three Athletics made the All-Star game. The aforementioned Gray was named the AL Starter for the game. CL Sean Doolittle (1-2, 26 saves, 1.57 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, 58 K in 40 IP) and C Stephen Vogt (.258/.319/.427, 10 HR, 40 RBI) were the other two A’s selected.
-SS Marcus Semien fractured his hip and will miss the remainder of the season. 2B Gordon Beckham, who was claimed off of waivers from the Atlanta Braves, replaced him. Since being claimed, Beckham has hit .267 with 3 HR and 8 RBI (60 AB).
-Trade Update: Denard Span is hitting .295 since being acquired from the Giants. He’s hit 4 HR, drove in 13 runs, scored 25 runs and has been an absolute sparkplug at the top of the lineup. Clayton Blackburn has been excellent since his acquisition, going 3-1 with a 3.71 ERA and 43 strikeouts in 51 innings.

6/7 – Red Sox Xander Bogaerts ruptured his MCL and will miss 9-10 months.
7/1 – Cleveland Indians 2B Jason Kipnis diagnosed with a broken hand, will miss 3-4 months.
7/3 – Chicago Cubs RF Jason Heyward was injured while running the bases. He's expected to miss about 3-4 weeks.
