Divisions are tough. You don't see it in Australian sport because, unlike in the US, there's really nothing between the west coast and Adelaide. So geographical divisions would be unbalanced.
You could do a north/south split, with the WA, SA and Vic teams in one division and the Qld. and NSW teams in another, but then the Victorians would complain about too much travel (and frankly, so would the South Australians, because they're up themselves
) and you'd have split up the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry.
Best to leave it as one league, I think. Here in WA our sporting teams have gotten used to travelling a lot. Just having two teams now for a local derby will be a nice change of pace.
