It's time for the final series. The series to end all series. The series to determine the greatest World Series team of all time. Okay, maybe it's not that dramatic, but it is the World Series. We're down to the final two teams. Representing the National League, the 1975 Cincinnati Reds!! The Reds will challenge the American League champion, the 1939 New York Yankees!!!

The Game 1 starter for the Reds is Pat Darcy, who was 12-8 in the regular season with a 4.33 ERA. Darcy has been pitching much better in the postseason, going 4-1 with a 1.32 ERA. On the mound for the Yankees is Lefty Gomez. Gomez was 17-11 with a 2.20 ERA in the regular season. He's pitched just as well in the postseason, putting up a 2.45 ERA, but only a 2-4 record.
The first two innings were scoreless, but that ends in the bottom of the 3rd inning, with the 1939 Yankees breaking out the bats. Tommy Henrich walks to start the inning, as does Babe Dahlgren. Frankie Crosetti grounds out to third, 5-3, which advances the runners. Charlie Keller then walks to load the bases with one out. Red Rolfe steps up and delivers a base hit past the second baseman, scoring Henrich. Joe DiMaggio comes up to the plate and cracks a single into left to score Dahlgren. George Selkirk is the second out on the 3-6 fielder's choice, but it scores Keller to make it 3-0. Bill Dickey then steps into the batters box and hits a double down the right field line, plating two more runs for the Yankees.
Gomez would keep the Red's bats silent and New York would add one more run in the 6th inning. Gomez pitches a complete game, holding Cincinnati to three hits, while striking out three and walking four.
