The young season has reached the end of it's first calendar month, with the American League playing about 11 games and the National League playing about 6. In the AL we see the Washington Senators in first place at 5-1, one game ahead of Baltimore (4-2) and Cleveland (4-2). Senators pitcher Jesse Kazen (1-1) is leading the AL in strikeouts with 17 and is 3rd in ERA with 1.30.
The National League shows the preseason favorite Boston Beaneaters leading their league by 2 games with a solid 9-2 start out of the gate. The Cincinnati Reds (8-5) are in second place. Boston is being lead by their two up and coming star players, shortstop Terry Flint (26) and starting pitcher Ben Block (24).
Flint is 3rd in the NL in hitting with a .444 batting average, tied for second in RBI with 11 and 2nd in stolen bases with 11. In his last 6 games he is 13 for 25- .520, 0 HR, 8 RBI.
Ben Block is (3-0) is tied for first in all of the big leagues with 3 wins, 2nd in ERA at 1.33, and 3rd in K's with 14.
The first monthly Power Rankings show Washington as the top team.
An interesting story to watch will be if the Cincinnati Reds (8-5) can stay in contention. before the season started, they were projected to have the worst record in baseball.
