Preview: Brisbane defeated Adelaide two games to none in the 1st Round. Brisbane won two close games. Has the magic and pixie dust run out as they take on the campaign's regular season champions Melbourne. Ones to watch SS Barry Bacon - Melbourne, 1B Marty Rafferty - Brisbane


Game 1 - Melbourne, Victoria
Melbourne will throw new acquisition Alex Balog, Balog pitched in AAA this season and only had two regular season starts for the Aces. Balog had 7 wins in 30 games in AAA pitching for the Rockies Organization, Balog went 1-1 in the ABL with an ERA of 1.59. Balog pitched a 1-2-3 1st inning. Brisbane sent to the mount Dan Canniano. Canniano had 4 wins in 14 appearances for Brisbane. Canniano has an ERA of 2.60 and had 116 strikeouts in 93 IP. Canniano also pitches a 1-2-3 inning. The pitching duel would continue until the bottom of the third when Carlos Gai, Melbourne, hit a solo HR to give Melbourne the lead. In the bottom of the fifth Harry Hoffman would hit a one out double off Dan Canniano, but Gai, C, would strike out and 2B Byron Blume would strike out as well as Alex Canniano would escape the pressure. Logan Coreless would hit a leadoff double but would be out trying to stretch it to third. A huge baserunning error that could have let Brisbane into the scoring column. Aaron Sayers would then hit a HR for Brisbane to lead off the 7th off of Alex Balog. Balog's first real mistake of the game. Balog would get out of the rest of the inning without further trouble. 1-1. A 1-2-3 inning from Canniano would ensure no Aces response in the bottom of the seventh. Balog would return the favor in the top of the eighth. Canniano would get into trouble in the 8th. a leadoff walk to Jared Cruz would be quickly followed by a double from star SS Barry Bacon (MELB). With runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out RF Jain-gun Pang came to the plate only to be pinch hit for by Joshua Roberts who flied out. Rookie of the year candidate, 2-3 on the day Lindsay Wall came to the plate with two outs. Wall would also fly out to center to end the Melbourne threat. Balog pitched a gem in the top of the ninth produce another 3 outs to keep Brisbane at bay. In the ninth Canniano would record an out, then Drew Bull hit a single. An error on a pickoff move would allow Bull to move to 2nd. Harman (DH - Melbourne) would be intentionally walked, bringing up 3B Harry Hofmann. Hofmann grounds to second into a Fielder's Choice. Two outs with the game winning run on third, but Gai would also ground out. To Extras we go. Balog would continue to pitch into the 10th. Canniano would get an out then walk Barry Bacon. Zach Wendorf would then enter the game for Brisbane to face Joshua Roberts. Roberts would hit a walkoff 2 run Home Run for Melbourne to win the game off Zach Wendorf's first pitch!

Melbourne 3, Bribane 1.


Game 2 - Melbourne, Victoria

Melbourne SP: Seung-hyuk Han. Han pitched in 16 games for Melbourne, 5 wins, 3.02 ERA with 135 strikeouts in 119 innings. Brisbane throws former ace Tristan Crawford. Crawford finished 9-6 with 2.53 ERA and had 123 K's in 117.1IP. After a Rafferty hit led to no runs in the top of the first, a two out Lindsay Wall triple set up Melbourne to score. Jack Barrie (1B, Melbourne), was walked as Crawford elected to face the LHB Drew Bull. Bull would fly out to end the inning. A Drew Bull double in the fourth ,followed by walks to Brad Harmon and Carlos Gai would lead to a tough two out bases loaded situation for Brisbane to get out of. 2B Byron Blume (MELB), would ground out on a weak rollover as Melbourne cannot take advantage. 0-0. A Drew Bull single in the sixth, with Harmon moving him over would set up a runner in scoring position with 0 outs. 3B Harry Hofmann would ground out into a FC to third, moving Harman to second. Carlos Gai would then bring Harman, Hoffman, and himself home on a 3 run HR. 3-0 Melbourne. Hofmann would triple in the 8th and Barry Bacon would hit a two out single to add an insurance run as Melbourne seeks their first ABL title. Han would complete the 9 inning shutout scattering 3 hits and two walks in his work.

Han was named the series MVP.

Melbourne 4, Brisbane 0.




2019 Melbourne Aces lost both games to the Chinatrust Brothers (CPBL) two games to none. Chinatrust would defeat Nexen (KBO) 4 games to one.
