I play a lot of various games on my Radeon 390. From Fallout 4 to FTL to Master of Orion 2 to Civ 5. I haven't noticed coil whine in any of these games. However, I was playing OOTP 17, and while watching an individual game being played, if I go to 3D View, my GPU starts with the coil whine. In flat-graphic, 2D mode it's quite, but 3D View makes a lot of coil whine considering my card is usually silent.

Any ideas as to why I can handle fancy games at 1440p, but a seemingly simple, mainly text game causes coil whine? Is it safest to not run 3D View in order to avoid causing the whine and affecting my card?
