Before we go any further, let me introduce you to my team..........
G
Mike Blackshear. The 28 year old goalie was the goalie that stood on his head to help us win a Cup in the 1980-81 season, My scouting staff still thinks he can be a decent goalie, but maybe the Cup run heroics were simply pure luck. We got Mike in a trade with the Minnesota Wild for G
Vladimir Lysek. Lysek is currently a free agent after the 33 year old posted 21 wins for the Wild last year. Blackshear born in Texas, has 61 wins to his credit in 2 seasons, with a career 2.67 GAA and .902 Save %. He is signed until 1983-84.
G
Steve Burris. Burris is strickly a back-up goalie while our #1 pick in 1981 draft gets ready in the AHL. Burris who will turn 31 in February has played in 29 NHL games over the first 2 seasons recording 12 wins with a 2.67 GAA and .899 Save %. He was an original pick by Montreal when the league was formed. Last season he back-stopped Blackshear in 17 games with a 2.45 GAA.
D
Clint Arrington. Arrington is considered a defensive defenseman and the 33 year old can play on either side. An ironman, Arrington has played in all of the Canadiens 164 games the past 2 seasons. He had 5 goals and 15 points last season with just 22 PIMs. Another one of the original Habs, he is signed until the end of this season.
D
Yegor Berestnev. The 27 year old Russian born defenseman was added by the Habs in the 80-81 season to improve the offense from the back-end and provide a PP Quarterback. Berestnev was acquired in a November 1980 trade with the Flames that saw us sent
David Mlynar and a 4th round pick to Calgary. The 38 year old Mlynar is still a Flame and put up 47 points with Calgary including 17 goals last year. Over the past 2 years, Berestnev has played in 123 of 164 games and has 20 goals and 104 points. He is signed until the 85-86 season.

D
Marek Bartolcic. Bartolcic is a Slovakian born defensive defenseman. At age 20, Bartolcic was selected by Montreal in the 1981 draft as the 203rd overall pick. When his OHL team, the Oshawa Generals never signed him to come back for his final year in Junior, Montreal signed him and assigned him to the AHL St Johns Ice Caps. After only 6 games in the AHL he had 10 points and was a +6 and was promoted to Montreal due to a injury. In 35 games with Montreal, he has 1 goal and 10 points and was a +2. He platooned as a 6th defenseman for Montreal last season and is expected to do so again this year. Bartolcic is signed until the 83-84 season.
D
Matej Ouhrabka. Touted as Montreal's top prospect when he was an original pick when the league formed, the 24 year old is still going through some growing pains but wears the 2nd "A" on his jersey. The Czech is being used primarily with his partner Berestnev on the 1st pairing for Montreal and that resulted in some good offensive numbers for the defensive defenseman. Matej put up 12 goals and 47 points with a +4 rating in 82 games last year. He will become a restricted free agent at the end of this season.
D
Martic Sulc. The 28 year old is another Czech defenseman for Montreal. Another defensive defenseman, he usually plays on the 2nd pairing for Montreal. Sulc missed most of the 80-81 campaign when he was afflicted with an MRSA infection in October of that season. He came back just in time to play in 4 playoff games. Sulc played in 80 games last year where he had 10 goals and 29 points. Sulc, an original Hab, is signed until the 83-84 season.

Signed until the end of the 1984-85 season, Bocci has 51 goals and 105 points in 144 games over the past 2 years. To go along with the offense is 253 PIMs and obviously the odd dust-up.
LW
Tom Gaskell. The 30 year old was acquired by Montreal in the off-season as a Free Agent. Gaskell played the previous 2 seasons with the Canucks putting up modest offensive numbers that included 15 goals and 77 points. The Canadiens signed Gaskell until the 84-85 season. Gaskell is expected to play on the 3rd line.
LW
Al Ladd. The Canadiens acquired the 30 year old Ladd last year in a deadline deal to improve its top 6 group. Montreal sent 20 year old
Chris Wharram to Chicago, a blue chip prospect to get Ladd. Ladd put up 15 points including 7 goals for Montreal in 19 games after the trade before injury ended his season in March. Despite being limited to 73 games, Ladd had 24 goals and 70 points with a +24 rating. Ladd is signed until the 84-85 season. Although normally a LW, Ladd will start the season as a RW on the 1st line.
LW
Dave Lyon. The 19 year old Lyon was signed as a Free agent in the off-season by Montreal. Lyon was the Wilds 1981 95th overall pick in the draft but chose not to resign him after playing in 41 games. C
Matthew Amadio. The 35 year old Amadio is expected to platoon on the 4th line where he has spent most of his past 2 seasons for Montreal. Over the past 2 years, Amadio has played in 88 games and has 7 goals and 13 points. Likely in his final season with Montreal,.he will become a UFA at the end of this season.
C
Chris Hughes. The 32 year old "Captain" is one of the best 2 way forwards in the game. He has won the Frank J Selke trophy for best defensive forward in both the 80-81 and 81-82 seasons, won the Art Ross trophy with his 99 points in the 80-81 season and is a 2-time All-Star. After recording 29 goals and 99 points in his 1st season, he fell to 30 goals and 69 points last season. In playing in all 164 games the past 2 years, Hughes has a +47 rating. Hughes plays on the 1st line which can also line up against the oppositions top unit. Hughes is signed until the end of the 85-86 season.

In 101 NHL games he has 9 goals and 17 points with 44 PIMs. He is expected to platoon on the 4th line this season and is signed until the end of this season.
C
Melvin Swiney. The 33 year old Swiney is a depth two-way forward for Montreal. The Canadiens got him via the waiver wire on March 4th. 1982 when it appeared they needed to add depth after an injury to
Al Ladd. Swiney had played 142 games with the Panthers prior to getting waived and now has 37 goals and 66 points with 83 PIMs and a +22 rating in 147 NHL games. Swiney is going to start the season on the 3rd line for Montreal. He will become a UFA at the end of this season.

Dave Wright. The 27 year old Wright was the added piece that Montreal needed for its Stanley Cup run in the 80-81 season. Wright was acquired in a trade that sent LW
Bill Davies and a 3rd rounder to Philadelphia. Davies, currently a Free agent, had 18 goals and 41 points as a 35 year old for Montreal before the trade. RW
Ronnie Marvin. The 27 year old Marvin was an original pick of the Canadiens when the league was formed. In the first two seasons with Montreal he has 18 goals and 49 points in 144 NHL games. Marvin has played mostly on the 2nd and 3rd lines for Montreal, he is expected to start on the 3rd line this season. He will be a UFA at the end of this season.
RW
Yevgeny Ronov. The 20 year old Ronov was signed as a Free agent in the off-season. Ronov was never drafted which was a surprize when you consider he was a playoff MVP in the 1980-81 WHL playoffs. He did sign a 1 year deal with the Sabres after that but was tossed back and forth between the NHL and AHL for Buffalo. He did put up 56 points in his final year of Junior with the Seattle Thunderbirds. Last year he had 4 goals and 13 points in 45 games for the Sabres. Montreal signed him until 84-85.
