There are a couple of baseball card sets that are on sale on ebay now that include the late Putsy Caballero. One is a 1950 Whiz Kids set and the other appears to be a mix of Philadelphia sports stars including both Phila. Athletics and Phillies. Photos in both are in black and white.
There are now just three living 1950 Phillies Whiz Kids and only two of them were part of the core - 25 man roster. Core players include pitchers Bob Miller, 90 and Curt Simmons, 87. September 1950 call up, pitcher Paul Stuffel is also still alive at age 89.
After Caballero's death, only third baseman, Don Hasenmayer, 89, remains of those plyers who played for the Phillies before the end of World War Two. Hasenmayer played parts of the 1945 and 1946 seasons and made his MLB debut on May 2, 1945 less than a week before the end of hostilities in Europe. He was only 19 when he played his last major league game in 1946.
