Until the time of his passing, Johnny Rutherford was listed as being in a tie with Bob Cerv for the 41st oldest living major leaguer. Both were born on May 5, 1925 (91 yrs., 7 1/2 mos. of age).
Although Rutherford played in the majors only one season (1952) it was a fairly active year. He pitched 97 innings in 22 games, going 7-7 with a 4.25 earned run average. He had 2 Saves, 11 starts and 4 Complete Games. He also pitched in relief of Joe Black in Game 4 of the 1952 World Series (a 2-0 Dodgers loss to the New York Yankees).
