TRIPLE CROWN YEAR FOR SUNS ITO
Norishige Ito is sitting on top of the world tonight... he got himself a Triple Crown this year -- the 6th player in IPA history to ever accomplish this feat... the Arroyo Grande Suns right fielder outpaced the rest of the Tycobbian Union offensively this year... Ito, age 25, hit .346, collected 58 home runs and chipped in 133 RBIs for the Suns... he led in all three categories to capture the Triple Crown, one of the rarer feats in baseball... despite Ito's great performance, the best Arroyo Grande could do was seventh place in the Tycobbian South Division... the Suns finished a poor 67-87 this season.
Previous winners of this prestigious honor were Karol Zodoka of East Point in 2002... Fairfax's Dane Wesner in 2010... High Mesa's Jack Elliott did it twice... 2017 and 2021... and Lorne Evans accomplished it with Southport in 2030... all of the stars are in the Islandian Pro Alliance Hall of Fame except for Zodoka... he was a late comer to the IPA and peaked early.
Previous IPA Triple Crown Winners:
Zodoka (.351 BA/54 HR/146 RBI) in 2002
Wesner (.383 BA/46 HR/146 RBI) in 2010
Elliott (.360 BA/56 HR/149 RBI) in 2017
Eliott (.380 BA/65 HR/156 RBI) in 2021
Evans (.386 BA/59 HR/134 RBI) in 2030
Ito (.346 BA/58 HR/133 RBI) in 2052
