ROOSTERS ROMP OVER WMACS IN OPENER
Three homers, 12 hits and a fine mound performance by James Long (26-9) gave Pro Cup favorite Middlefield an easy 12-2 romp over Wynnamac in the opening game of IPA Pro Cup playoffs at Middlefield Park... 1B Natty Colclough, SS Stan Radzikowski and LF Trip Agarn bashed solo home runs to lead the way... Long (1-0) went all the way, stopping the Sundowners on two runs and six hits... 21-game winner Sammy Hayes (0-1) was shelled hard for eight runs and eight hits in his five-plus frames... six of the scores were unearned... Wynnamac had a bad day in the field with four errors... Middlefield was even worse with five miscues, but they didn't do any harm.

TARANTO'S CASTLE SHACKLES WALESKA IN GAME 1
Taranto's terrific rookie Phil Castle shackled visiting Waleska 2-1 in game one of the Ruthlandian Division Championship Series, played at the Palazzo di Sport... Castle, 23-3 in his freshman season, fired a complete game and stopped the Westerners on just five hits... Castle (1-0) fanned four and walked only two batters and outpitched veteran Vince Gibson (0-1)... also going the distance Gibson was sharp, too, yielding just two runs on eight hits with one walk and six Ks... the Tars got both of their runs in the 3rd frame on RBIs by LF Kuma Toyota and RF Cody Losby.

GUIDRY'S DOUBLE WINS FIRST GAME FOR TURON
Game one of the Tycobbian Division Championship Series was a tense, extra-inning thriller... Turon 3B Joel Guidry doubled in the winning run in the last of the 10th and gave the hometown Typhoons a 3-2 triumph over the Oxford Red Caps... 26-game winner Nate Scottsdale hurled nine and two-thirds innings and didn't allow an earned run... he held the Red Caps to two runs and eight hits, but didn't get the victory... it went to reliever Russell Mallory (1-0), who got the final out in the top of the 10th... Oxford starter Lou Ellison (21-16) was impressive, too, giving up only two runs on five hits in his eight innings... his relief, Rene McCanless (0-1), was not as good... he took the loss.

WALLACE TOPS BRADFORD IN 1ST GAME
Both clubs got strong pitching in the opener of the Tycobbian DCS between East Point and Kenwood... East Point 21-game winner Ralph Wallace bested Kenwood 20-game winner Rusty Bradford 3-2 at Armed Forces Park... Wallace struck out nine, walked only two and limited the Panthers to just five hits... Bradford tossed eight frames and surrendered only two runs and three hits... Bradford didn't get the loss... it went to Mike Jones (1-0), who relieved him to start the last of the 9th.
