Jay Hankins 1961
I was very fortunate to have had a terrific experience as a 7th grader when we were taught by a long term sub in Jay Hankins. I had great talks with Jay about baseball and he shared some great stories with me about his time in the big leagues and as a scout (Paul Molitor and Kirk Gibson scout stories were great) I interviewed him on an Fisher Price recorder and I still have that cassette tape somewhere about his baseball experiences.
He later went on to work in a larger role with the Phillies (serving as their scouting director from 1989-92) after he was my teacher.
I have gotten to know his son in recent years as he is a scout for the Tigers and is often covering kids at a lot of the games I attend....
Here is his Fritsch card...if anyone else has photos of Jay that would be great
