I try to find photos of every player in my current OOTP season. I just completed 1976 and am moving onto 1977....In my searches I, often, come across great information about these players. I thought this player was perfect to talk about on here.
Scott Christopher, a former Baltimore Orioles farmhand, who Cal Ripken said
in an interview was one of the fastest players he ever played with while also saying
“He understood the joys of life beyond most of us,” Ripken said. “He was a free spirit.”
It really is a very cool article if you have time to read...Anyway, Christopher went from a young boy who almost lost his right hand in a freak accident to a budding star at the University of Maryland. He played minor league ball with the Orioles stealing 93 bases in 325 games between 1977 and 1980. He hit .265 in his career with a .328 OBP reaching as high as AA ball. But, during his time in the minor leagues he began to be known as an artist and today he is known as shooting, arguably, the best single best portrait of Michael Jackson. He is a very accomplished painter and photographer living in Santa Fe...
I, also, found it very interesting, how genuine of a person he seems to be. We all know the story of Drungo Hazewood who wore the can't miss label as a prospect. When Hazewood died he left 7 children and had very little money.
Christopher paid for the funeral and raised money for the family by organizing former teammates to help the cause.
