I initially wanted to do TC's but obviously expanded the scopeI've got a to do list in test of over 900 fighters that's been around for ages although I've made a dent in it. Have a list of retired HWs about as large with boxrec IDs. Sometimes just browse through boxrec. Also try to add any fighters mentioned in books I'm reading. Plan to make sure I add every fighter mentioned in Hugman's 4 volume
Definitive History Of World Championship Boxing. Fighters mentioned in coverage of each weight class are listed in an index. Have worked on fighters with obits in
The Ring, IBRO newsletters, and Hugman's old British annuals. Also have worked through the Velazquez papers lists of ring fatalities. (Some may consider this a bit morbid but I like to remember those who have gone on in some small way.) Periodically I'll go through my copies of
Fistiana and do Prize Ring guys. Planning to go through Tracy Callis and Chuck Johnston's
Boxing in the Los Angeles Area 1880-2005. Have already done several other cities in this series of books by Arcadia publishing. I always try to get a good mix of fighters from various locales. Did boxrec lists of top 10 guys. Also I'm always a sucker for compelling names like Jukebox Timebomb. When possible I start new pages in the TC Parade with a "name fighter" I try not do do active fighters unless I watch them on a telecast.
Tracy Callis, by the way, did a book right up your alley:
A Brief History of the Heavyweights 1881-2010. Published in 2013 by KO Publications in Iowa City
