Unfortunately, you've stumbled upon one of OOTP's weaknesses - it's not very good at handling the way that baseball was organized in the 19th century. The game doesn't use the historical 1871 schedule (which is, nevertheless, included with the game) because, if you want to play beyond 1871 into the 20th century, the game will have a tough time creating the AL in 1901 unless it was already in existence. That means creating the AL in 1871 and having, in effect, a fictitious historical league. That also means that the AA, UA, and PL don't appear at all. Take a look at BaseballMan's historical replay to get a sense of what you would need to do to create historically accurate leagues in the 19th century.
