Larry Ray, Houston Astros 1982

Larry Ray was a late 70s Astros draft pick from Switzerland County Indiana. An outfielder, Ray had good doubles power and he posted some OPS over .800 in the minors. I can't find his minor league fielding records on Baseball Reference, so it's not clear just how good or bad an outfielder he was. The Astros took a very quick look at Ray during their disastrous 1982 season--seven plate appearances, one hit, one RBI, which would turn out to be Ray's final MLB stats. He continued to hit well in the minors, but the Astros never recalled him and he quit baseball at the age of 29. Up to now the only major league image I had seen of him was a small, blurred black and white shot. Here is a color image of Ray I found on a local Switzerland County site. The quality is far from top notch, but at least it is in color.
